A passenger on a flight from Melbourne to Perth has reportedly threatened to kill everyone on board if she didn't get a second glass of wine.

The female passenger attacked a flight attendant and threatened to kill her whilst kicking and screaming in the aisle, leaving children traumatised, The West Australian reported.

The woman was travelling her brother who did not try and stop her from lashing out.

She was offered a first glass of wine, but the flight attendant told her she couldn't have another one until she finished her first one.

Her outburst was so bad the plane had to be diverted to Adelaide so she could be escorted off the plane by Australian Federal Police.

Other passengers said the Virgin Australia staff handled the situation well.

The unruly passenger faces criminal charges and fines up to $20,000.
