Fiji Airways to use new Boeing MAX aircraft on Wellington-Nadi service

Fiji Airways new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft will begin flights between Wellington and Nadi in December; the airline will be the first to operate the new plane in New Zealand.

The 737 Max 8 is an updated version of the classic Boeing and its more fuel efficient, with larger overhead luggage storage. It's also quieter than its predecessors.

Fiji Airways is the first airline in the region to be delivered the 737 Max 8 aircraft; they have ordered five of them.

In total, Boeing has received orders for 4500 737 Max 8 aircraft globally. Virgin Australia has ordered 40 and expects to receive them within the next two years.

Fiji is said to have become a popular destination for Wellingtonians since the airline launched the direct service in 2015. Fiji Airways flies between the destinations on Thursday and Sunday.

Air NZ has operated a Wellington-Nadi service between June and October since 2004 using an A320 aircraft.
