Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines have announced the launch of new daily flights between Auckland and Singapore.

Monday morning's Singapore Airlines flight SQ282 was the first to operate under the new schedule when it took off at 1:15am.

As part of the joint venture, Singapore Airlines will operate two of the three daily flights from today until March, 2019. Air NZ will then take over the operation of the extra flight though until October.

The additional flight will add an extra 165,000 seats on the route annually.

Singapore Airlines will operate a mix of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777-300ERs, depending on the time of year. Air New Zealand will operate Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

The airlines will jointly operate a total of 35 return services between Singapore and New Zealand each week in peak season, including services to Wellington and Christchurch.
