Search launched for the best bach in New Zealand

Global accommodation website Bookabach has launched a search for the best bach in New Zealand.

Given the popularity of traditional beach holiday homes in New Zealand, the list of finalists is long.

A total of 40 properties are nominated across eight categories: design, family-friendly, indulgence, eco-friendly, pet-friendly, unique, urban and hospitality.

The annual awards also have a new category this year: the people's choice award.

We've narrowed down the shortlist of 40 to an even shorter list of just four.

Located in Church Bay on Waiheke Island, Puriri Valley Lodge is most definitely at the luxury end of the scale.

It can accommodate up to 18 guests in its eight bedrooms, it has six bathrooms and they allow kids and pets.

The exclusive property has views of Rangitoto and the Hauraki Gulf, and is surrounded by six acres of private walking tracks and native bush.

It's available for around $2000 a night.

If I was to design my own house, it would look pretty similar to this. At the top of the South Island in the town of Kaiteriteri is Panorama House, and there's no need to explain why it's got that name.

Extensive windows and decking provide as many options as possible to enjoy summer in one of the sunniest regions in the country.

Once you've enjoyed a breakfast overlooking Tasman Bay, the Abel Tasman National Park is on your back doorstep ready to be explored.

Modern and centrally located, this multi-million dollar penthouse is located right in the middle of downtown Christchurch's popular 'Innovation Precinct.'

Despite being compact and quite simplistic in design, the apartment has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and is comparatively affordable at around $350 a night.

Staying in the South Island, our final choice is the Bell Bird Ridge Home in Picton

Spacious and modern, this four-bedroom property is also one that boasts amazing views. In fact, when you stay at this house, you don't even need to get out of bed to see the green hills that surround the Picton area.

The master bedroom also has its own spa for when you want to escape from the kids or the rest of the family.

You can make your own choice via the competition website.
