World's shortest commercial flight takes less time than watching Air NZ's 'It's Kiwi Safety' video

It's a hit online, but the lengthy new Air New Zealand safety video is frustrating some travellers and actually takes longer to watch than the world's shortest commercial flight.

Air NZ's 'It's Kiwi Safety' video was released this week and the airline says it racked up over six million views within 24 hours.

However, some comments on the Newshub Travel Facebook group suggest the video's four minute, 37 second duration may be too long to hold a viewer's attention.

Watch the entire flight:

"Watching this was - and will be again - time that I will never get back," said one commenter.

Another stated: "As a safety video, I think they missed the mark big time. Watching the whole thing became a chore."

A commercial flight in the UK is shorter in duration than 'It's Kiwi Safety' - in fact, you could theoretically complete a return trip in the time it takes to watch the video.

LoganAir in Scotland flies between Westray and Papa Westray every day, with a flight time of just two minutes.

The NZ$14 flight leaves Westray at 8.57am and arrives at 8.59am. The distance between the two destinations is 2.7km - almost a kilometre shorter than the runway at Auckland International Airport.

LoganAir uses a Britten-Norman Islander aircraft on the route, similar to those used between Auckland and Great Barrier Island.
