A Saudi Arabian Airlines flight was forced to turn back just moments into its near nine-hour flight after a passenger realised she left her child at the airport.

No, this is not a sequel to Home Alone. This actually happened this week at Jeddah's main airport, as reported by The Independant.

The flight had just left on its way to Kuala Lumpur and when the captain was informed of the unique situation, he decided to turn the plane around.

The cockpit crew contacted air traffic control and informed them of the situation, leaving them stunned.

A recording of the conversation has been uploaded to social media and has been viewed tens of thousands of times.

Translated into English, the pilot can be heard being asked twice to repeat the reason for his request.

"We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight."

The controllers then express surprise and concern over the incident.

"This flight is requesting to come back... a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing."

The flight was cleared to return immediately and the mother was reunited with her unharmed child.
