Emirates planes introducing 4K screens

For film and TV fans who love ultra-high definition, watching 4K content in the sky is about to become a reality.

Emirates has announced that its Boeing 777X aircraft will offer 4K screens and ultra-high definition content to play on them from 2020.

Patrick Brannelly, the airline's vice president of customer experience, said in a recent interview the 4K upgrade would be carried out within months.

"That's standard now... TV is about picture quality and sound quality," Brannelly told Arabian Business.

"Part of our investment in the new IFE (in-flight entertainment) system is larger screens to ensure our customers always have a superior viewing experience."

Getting 4K screens onto its planes results from a deal Emirates made with French multinational company Thales Group.

The company will also equip Emirates' 777X fleet with broadband connectivity capable of 50 megabits per second (Mbps).
