Flights diverted and delayed as storm hits NZ

Travellers are being warned to expect delays with any travel booked to take place today as bad weather crosses the country.

Air NZ says it will be flexible with passengers booked to fly in or out of Wellington this afternoon due to strong winds forecast for the capital.

The airline says anyone whose travel plans involve Wellington Airport will be able to make changes to their bookings online rather than having to call their contact centre.

Air NZ is also warning customers of delays when calling their customer services line, and have asked for any non-urgent calls to be deferred.

Customers who no longer need to travel will have the option to transfer their booking to another date or hold the fare value as a credit for up to 12 months.

Travellers across the country are being warned to regularly check flight arrival and departure information to minimise any disruption.

Gusts of more than 60 km/h are forecast to hit the capital from early this afternoon.
