Uber has revealed three simple steps to keep yourself safe when catching a ride.

The rideshare giant says "safety is our top priority" and is working to reduce "incidents" and set new standards.

A statement said it wants people to stay connected and protected every time they ride.

"Safety never stops."

In its campaign 'driving safety forwards', Uber says safety features are designed into the app, so people can tell their loved ones where they are if something "unexpected" happens.

The campaign says all potential driver-partners must complete a criminal background screening process before being approved to accept ride requests.

Finally, the campaign outlines three simple steps to keep yourself safe:

  • match the license plate number
  • aatch the car make and model
  • check the driver photo.

"Our commitment to safety goes beyond the app," Uber says. "You deserve to be able to move and earn safely."
