Winners of SkyTrax airline awards announced

The SkyTrax Airline awards were held in Paris on Tuesday night and as well as crowning the world's best airline, the independent airline customer satisfaction survey also announced winners in more than a dozen other categories.

Air NZ won the title for best premium economy and best cabin cleanliness in the Australia/Pacific region, but was beaten by Qantas for the title of best airline in the region.

The rest of the top five was made up by Virgin Australia, Fiji Airways and Jetstar.

For travellers who are used to turning left and sitting at the front of the plane, the best first class product title was awarded to Singapore Airlines and best business class to Qatar.

Air NZ was third in the race for the best premium economy award, beaten by Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines.

For the rest of us who fly economy, Japan Airlines was announced as the best, with Singapore Airlines in second place.

The SkyTrax Awards took place as part of the Paris Airshow , an event that is worth billions to the industry as airlines and manufacturers jostle and negotiate between each other for the best deal.
