Thick fog over Auckland airport causes flight disruptions

Fog restrictions Auckland Airport have lifted after a long morning of disruption.

The restrictions were put in place at 9.18am on Wednesday and did not lift until 12.09pm.

"Approximately 30 domestic regional flights were cancelled and 25 regional domestic flights were delayed due to the fog," an airport spokesperson said.

International flights were not affected.

"There has been intermittent fog at the airport since about 6am," Metservice meteorologist Andrew James told Newshub.

The fog has blanketed the CBD but did not last long.

A time-lapse video by NIWA shows the thick cloud creeping over the city as the sun rises.
