Police investigating laser strike on plane flying into Christchurch

Police are investigating a laser strike on a plane flying into Christchurch on Tuesday night.

The aircraft was flying in from Dunedin when the laser was pointed at it from somewhere in the central city.

Officers were called to investigate and police say enquiries are now ongoing.

Aviation commentator Irene King told Newshub it's the height of stupidity.

"It looked like it was a fairly high-powered laser. You know if you end up blinding the pilots on approach, it could have absolutely dreadful consequences."
