Southwest Airlines flight attendant crawls into plane's overhead storage

Photos and video of a Southwest Airlines flight attendant lying down inside the overhead baggage compartment is being widely shared online.

The incident occurred on a flight from Nashville to Philadelphia and was posted online by passenger Veronica Lloyd earlier this week.

"I can't get over how weird I find this, @SouthwestAir... is this a dream?" she said on Twitter.

Lloyd spoke to Fox News about the cabin crew's unusual actions, saying she was in the overhead baggage compartment "for a solid 10 minutes".

"It was very interesting… I think she was doing it to try and be funny and make the passengers laugh," said Lloyd.

Although it may have been a joke, some expressed concern about the move breaking safety regulations.

Among the many replies Lloyd got to her photos and video on Twitter was an airline safety watchdog officer requesting more information.

A spokesperson for the US airline confirmed to Fox News the stunt was a joke.

"Southwest Employees are known for demonstrating their sense of humour and unique personalities," the spokesperson said.

"In this instance, one of our flight attendants attempted to have a brief moment of fun with customers during boarding. Of course, this is not our normal procedure, and Southwest crews always maintain safety as their top priority."

Southwest added that the zany flight attendant won't be disciplined for her actions.
