Too many dangerous cars driving on NZ roads - veteran mechanic

Five-years-ago, the warrant of fitness (WOF) rules for cars changed.

You used to have to get a WOF every six months, but now it's once a year.

But as that's changed, it's been revealed more cars are failing their WOF, and a veteran mechanic says we're letting dangerous cars drive on our roads.

"There's no simple solution," veteran mechanic Paul Atkin told The Project. "As a consequence of having warrants for a 12-month period, we're picking up so many vehicles with fatal problems in them.

"If you can't afford to repair your car, you shouldn't own cars."
