Passengers bound for Auckland on an Air New Zealand flight from Melbourne were evacuated on Monday afternoon (local time).

Flight NZ124 was later cancelled, as the delay meant the crew had exceeded their "crew hours limitation", an Air New Zealand spokeswoman told Newshub. Customers were accommodated on other services.

"We apologise for any inconvenience," the spokeswoman said.

The Melbourne Fire Brigade said the evacuation was due to some white powder found on the plane, 9 News reports. Initial testing revealed the powder was not poisonous.
