Most travellers waiting for their flight will read a book, scroll through social media or take a nap.

But one man at Oregon's Portland International Airport took his search for entertainment a step further.

The bored traveller, wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans, was caught sitting on a wooden chair with his headset on playing a video game on an airport monitor.

"This guy has his video game plugged into one of the airport monitors. Seen yesterday at @flypdx," posted Twitter user, Stefan Dietz.

The image shows a set-up of nine screens. Six show the arrivals and departures board. The two other screens warn travellers to check their boarding passes and display a map of the terminal.

But rather than another map on the far bottom-left screen, it shows the landscape of a video game universe.

The game the man is playing is the popular video game Apex Legends.

It's believed the man would have had to bring his own PlayStation 4 into the terminal and plug it in, hijacking the airport's system.

Dietz told CNN that not only was the man playing a videogame on the airport monitor but he was talking to other players through his headset.

According to CNN, airport officials asked the man to unplug his game from the monitor.

He politely asked personnel if he may finish his game, airport spokeswoman Kama Simonds told CNN.

Airport officials replied he could not finish his game.

"That is obviously something that we don't want to have happened, because travellers need the information that we are putting on the screens for them," Simonds told radio station KXL.
