One of the world's most iconic home entertainment brands, Atari, is planning to open a series of Atari-themed hotels across the United States, with the first opening in Phoenix, Arizona later this year.

Atari says the hotels will have one-of-a-kind video game-themed rooms and fully-immersive experiences for guests.

Some of the hotels will be set up with larger spaces and facilities to host large esports events.

"We'll build a space that will be much more than just a place to stay," said Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari.

There are reportedly more than 2.5 billion gamers around the world and they spent more than US$150 billion dollars on games in 2019, which is an increase of 9.6 percent on 2018's total amount.

The hotel's design team can't wait to get to work on the Atari project.

"When creating this brand new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the 'nostalgic and retro meets modern' look and feel we were going for. Let's face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!" said designer Napoleon Smith III.

The first of the Atari hotels is planned to break ground in 2020 in Arizona, with plans to open more in cities including Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose.
