Singapore Airlines has announced further cutbacks across its entire network, including its services to New Zealand.
In a statement released on Wednesday the company said will be operating just 50 percent of its already reduced schedule, which had previously been announced for April and May - and the airline expects further cuts to be made in the coming weeks.
"We have lost a large amount of our traffic in a very short time, and it will not be viable for us to maintain our current network," Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said.
"Make no mistake - we expect the pace of this deterioration to accelerate. The SIA Group must be prepared for a prolonged period of difficulty."
Singapore Airlines flight changes:
- Singapore-Auckland SQ 281 will be suspended from March 20 until March 27
- Auckland-Singapore SQ 282 will be suspended from March 21 until March 28
- Auckland-Singapore SQ 285/286 will be flying just three times a week from April 1 until April 30
- Singapore-Christchurch SQ 297 will be suspended from March 29 until April 30
- Christchurch-Singapore SQ 228 will be suspended from March 30 until May 1
- Singapore-Wellington SQ 247 will be suspended from March 21 until May 1
- Wellington-Singapore SQ 248 will be suspended from March 22 until May 1
The airline is looking into other ways to urgently cut costs including talking to employee unions.
