Airports are back in business under alert level 2 with domestic flights for non-essential travel operating for the first time since lockdown on Thursday.
It was always going to begin in tears. For some there were happy reunions and others sad goodbyes.
As Holly Carran reports, airports throughout New Zealand were doing everything possible to make travellers feel safe.
