Heavy fog disrupts flights at Wellington Airport

At least seven flight arrivals have been delayed and one inbound flight diverted due to heavy fog at Wellington Airport on Tuesday morning.

"So far today, the majority of flights have been delayed and there have been some cancellations. We are expecting ongoing delays and possible cancellations until the fog clears," a spokesperson for the airport told Newshub.

One flight, NZ 8811 from Hamilton to Wellington, diverted to Palmerston North just after 8am.

The Metservice says the fog is "quite extensive" and is going right up Hutt Valley.

The forecaster said it was initially expected to lift this morning but could be around until lunch time.

"It's slowly starting to lift but because of the angle of the sun it doesn't have as much strength to evaporate the cloud," the Metservice said.
