TripAdvisor has released the 2020 edition of its annual list of the world's best of everything travel-related.

Although the winners won't see any immediate jump in bookings due to COVID-19, the list still provides would-be travelers with inspiration for where to travel when the world returns to normal.

Every year TripAdvisor pulls together all the reviews and ratings that travellers have shared on its platform from around the world, then whittle the feedback down to find the 'Travelers' Choice Best of the Best' awards.

The best of the best:

Hotels

Viroth's Hotel, Siem Reap, Cambodia

"Chic, tranquil, green and luxurious oasis. Friendly, helpful and yet unobtrusive service. Viroth's is not just a great place to see the stunning temples, but a destination in its own right."

This hotel is said to have everything you need, especially if you're after some relaxation and wellbeing with spas and special treatments such as body buffing.

It also has a fleet of classic limousines used for airport transfers and other guest transportation.

Airlines

Azul

In terms of being named the 'world's best' airline, this is an interesting choice. The low cost carrier has placed higher than prestige airlines such as Emirates and Singapore Airlines.

In second place was Singapore Airlines while Air New Zealand was placed sixth. Customer feedback was positive for our national carrier, with one review calling the airline one of the world's best.

"What more can I say about this airline but the fact that it is some of the best service and value for money I have ever experienced in the air. Couldn't recommend them highly enough. Certainly can see why they are so highly rated in world airlines," one reviewer said.

Attractions

Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando Florida was voted the world's best and beat out a handful of other Disney theme parks that made their way into the top 25.

Animal Kingdom was fourth on the list, Disneyland Park in Anaheim placed 11th, Hollywood Studios in Florida 12th, California Adventure in 15th, Hong Kong Disneyland in 20th and Disneyland Paris in 21st.

Puy du Fou was second on the list. The fully immersive experience was described by The Guardian as France's "best kept secret".

With live shows inside Roman stadiums and a cast of approximately 1200 actors, it's one of the most detailed themed experiences in the world.

More than two million people visit the park every year, making it the second busiest theme park in France, after Disneyland Paris.

In eighth place was the theme park owned by Dolly Parton, Dollywood, located in Tennessee. The park which is packed with more old-school style rides is described as the most family friendly theme park in the world.

Beaches

Located on an island that was once used as an Air France refuelling point and cold war missile base, the beach of Baia do Sancho on the Brazilian archipelago of Fernando de Noronha is often voted the world's best.

Despite its popularity, the beach is far from over-populated. The island is a protected national park and directions on how to get to the beach are practically non-existent, making the beach as mysterious as it is beautiful.

The world's best restaurant was named as Auberge Du Vieux Puits, in Fontjoncouse, France.

Kochi, India was named the top trending destination. Kaliningrad in Russia the top emerging destination, and London was the top overall destination in the world, followed by Paris, Crete, Bali, Rome, Phuket, Sicily, Majorca, Barcelona and Istanbul.

Only one destination in the US got a mention, with New York placing 25th on the list.
