The Grand by SkyCity has been named Oceania's Leading Business Hotel at the 27th World Travel Awards, coming ahead of several strong competitors in Australia.

Unlike previous years, there was no gala ceremony for the 2020 awards, instead all winners took part in a special virtual showcase.

SkyCity Entertainment Group General Manager of Hotels Brad Burnett says the World Travel Award cements The Grand by SkyCity's place as a leading hotel in Oceania among business travellers, domestic visitors and international tourists.

"Despite the incredible challenges faced by our industry over the course of 2020, it's amazing to think this year's awards were voted on by a record number of consumers, illustrating that as the global recovery begins the appetite for tourism has never been stronger," Burnett said.

Other finalists in the Business Hotel category:

  • Grand Hyatt Melbourne
  • InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto
  • InterContinental Perth City Centre
  • InterContinental Sydney
  • InterContinental Wellington
  • Park Hyatt Sydney
  • Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park
  • Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay
  • The Langham, Melbourne
  • The Westin Melbourne

The award will be appreciated by SkyCity as it comes amid the opening of multiple new hotels in Auckland, including the Park Hyatt and Sofitel.
