An American Airlines flight from Sydney to Los Angeles has been postponed and urgent testing of airline and airport staff is underway after a possible COVID-19 case amongst its cabin crew.

In a statement, NSW Health confirmed testing was underway.

"The crew member was tested as part of routine surveillance. They are currently in special health accommodation."

Urgent testing is now underway to see if the crew member was recently infected or if the case is historical.

All other crew members have been isolated in a hotel and are also being tested.

Despite the positive case, NSW Health says there is no risk to the broader community.

The news comes just days after a quarantine-free Australia and New Zealand travel bubble was announced.
