Air New Zealand is preparing to launch a club which will offer discount airfares - some cut by as much as 50 percent.

The club, called Grabaseat Gotta Getaway, will cost $95 annually to join and will initially be launched as a trial to 1000 people, according to Stuff.

The report says the club is designed to encourage last-minute travel.

If you are already registered with Grabaseat, are an Airpoints member and have travelled on the airline in the past 12 months, then you will be eligible to apply.

Members will also be able to add as many as three people to their subscription for a cost of $50 per person.

At this stage, there are no plans to expand the club to international flights, and the 1000 trial members will be selected at random after applications close on Sunday, May 16.

Air New Zealand has been contacted to confirm the report.
