Jetstar has delayed resuming services to Rarotonga until March next year, a company spokesperson has confirmed.
The decision was made due to "a number of operational reasons", but the Jetstar representative said the airline was fully committed to restarting flights to Rarotonga in late March, 2022 - or sooner, if the situation allows.
Customers booked on Jetstar flights to Rarotonga between October 2021 and March 28, 2022 are being offered a range of options from Jetstar, including a full refund for their cancelled flight.
For Jetstar customers who opted for a refund of their Jetstar fare and would still wish to travel to Rarotonga, Air New Zealand has agreed to carry any passengers who were booked on flights to Rarotonga that are now cancelled, subject to availability, and details on how to do this can be found on Jetstar's website.
Jetstar's services to Rarotonga originate in Australia so are currently not part of the travel bubble between New Zealand and Cook Islands.
