Shotover Jet has offered free rides to all essential workers in Queenstown as a way of recognising their contribution on the frontline.

The company's general manager of jet boat operations Jolanda Cave says it wants to do everything possible to recognise those helping the country through the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We've all been helped so much by the contribution that essential workers have made over the course of the pandemic. This is a gesture from us which I hope can help brighten up their day and remind all essential workers that we are grateful," Cave said.

The jet boat rides have been offered to 18 essential service organisations in Queenstown. Each has been given a ride for up to 14 of their staff as well as transport to and from their place of work for a package with a total value of more than $30,000.

These range from medical services, supermarkets, education facilities, emergency response personnel and transport providers.

Shotover Jet is also planning a Locals Day on November 27, offering heavily discounted ticket prices to Queenstown residents.

Locals Day has been an annual event for some time but it didn't go ahead in 2020 due to uncertainty around alert levels.

Queenstown locals will be able to purchase tickets for as low as $49 and all proceeds from the day will be donated to Lakes District Hospital Queenstown.
