Emergency services raced to Wellington Airport just after 2pm on Friday after an incident involving a flight which had just landed in the capital.

It's believed the flight was being operated by Air New Zealand.

A large amount of smoke was seen coming from one of the engines and passengers were disembarked on the tarmac when the aircraft came to a stop.

"The smoke probably made it look a lot worse than what it actually was," one witness told Newshub.

A spokesperson for Wellington Airport said all flights had resumed operation and the aircraft had made its way to the terminal.

Air NZ has been contacted for comment.
