Afterpay can now be used to buy Jetstar flights

Afterpay has partnered with Jetstar in New Zealand, allowing Kiwis to use the 'buy now, pay later' service when booking domestic or international flights.

The service allows shoppers to buy goods without paying for them upfront, but instead with interest-free payments spread over four fortnightly instalments.

"We are delighted to partner with Jetstar as our first airline in New Zealand to offer Afterpay. We know how desperate Kiwis are to get back to travelling and for many, return home," says Katrina Kontas, Afterpay's Vice President Sales.

"We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity and option to get on a plane to go see the places and people they've been missing, without causing financial stress. We're thrilled to make this a possibility by adding Jetstar to our list of incredible merchants."

Although Afterpay is a free service, late fees can apply and there is eligibility criteria.

Meanwhile, Jetstar this week reintroduced its 'Return for Free' promotion, which offers return airfares at one-way prices. This comes as competition with Air New Zealand heats up as demand increases with the COVID-19 pandemic's impact waning.

Jetstar Return for Free fares examples are as follows:

  • Auckland to Christchurch from $62
  • Auckland to Dunedin from $82
  • Auckland to Wellington from $61
  • Auckland to Queenstown from $84
  • Christchurch to Wellington from 59
  • Wellington to Queenstown from $71

Travel periods for the sale vary per route but include early May to early July and later July to later September 2022.

The sale runs until late Thursday evening unless sold out prior.
