Queenstown hotel guest's 'funny' discovery after room's stunning lake view wasn't what it seemed

A Queenstown hotel guest said she had to laugh after her lakeside view turned out to be a television feed.

Miriam Moore booked an affordable suite at the Mi-Pad Hotel on Henry Street under the assumption she was getting either a mountain or lake view.

But while there was a picturesque view in the room, to Moore's surprise it was a live stream video feed from the top floor balcony.

"I thought it was very funny," Moore told Newshub.

She said the booking perhaps referred to the communal balcony which the live stream showed and there was a view of the back room so "fair play to them I guess".

The Hotel's website said there are options for "scenic Remarkables Mountains or picturesque Lake Whakatipu views" but availability is dependent.

The hotel confirmed to NZ Herald, all rooms have the option to stream live views from the balcony cameras to give everybody access to the stunning lake views.

While Moore may have missed out on magnificent views from her bedroom, she got to see the incredible lakes and mountains Queenstown has to offer up close.

"I was out enjoying Queenstown so in the end, I didn't need to see the view from my bed," she said.

After a couple of years of travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Moore was happy to adventure around Queenstown and support local tourism.

Newshub has contacted Mi-Pad for comment.
