After being named best airline in the world in a recent rankings list, Air New Zealand has just landed the 19th position in a rival ratings list.
In the 2023 World Airline Awards by Skytrax, Aotearoa's national carrier is ranked well behind the likes of Singapore Airlines in number one, last year's winner Qatar Airways in number two and Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways in number three.
Air NZ ranked 30th in the Skytrax list last year and 20th in 2021. Last month it was ranked number one by AirlineRatings.com.
It's the fifth time Singapore Airlines has topped the annual Skytrax list. This year the airline's win has been attributed to its "in-flight menus in all classes of service offer gourmet meals created by a panel of internationally renowned chefs and... state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system, which offers a wide choice of movies, music and games".
In addition to World's Best Airline, Singapore Airlines also won Best First Class Airline, Best First Class Comfort Amenities and Best Airline in Asia.
Air NZ was ranked the third best airline in the Australia/Pacific region, behind Fiji Airways in number one and Qantas in number two.
Qatar Airways has topped the Skytrax world's best airline list more than any other company, with its 2022 win being its seventh.
The Skytrax awards are based on surveys of more than 20 million travellers from around the world. Australia-based AirlineRatings.com's awards are judged by a panel of industry experts who assess the safety, innovation, passenger reviews and profitability of airlines.
