A large amount of tourists are heading to New Zealand to stay in Queenstown this month to celebrate the Chinese or Lunar New Year, according to new data.

It's estimated more than a billion people from around the world will be joining in on February 10 celebrations, with both Queenstown and Auckland making it into Airbnb's top 20 related searches.

Queenstown is in third place of the accommodation website's Lunar New Year 2024 searches. That may come as no surprise due to the hotspot's world-class vineyards, adventure tourism options and stunning views.

"We're excited to welcome travellers to New Zealand who are celebrating Lunar New Year," Airbnb's Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand Susan Wheeldon said.

"With the warm weather and many exciting events taking place, it is an ideal time to visit, and it seems holidaymakers agree."
