Customers stranded as Australian budget airline Bonza abruptly cancels all flights

Several flights have been cancelled from multiple Australian airports amid fears one airline's future is at stake.

It comes as Bonza announced the airline's "ongoing viability" is up in the air.

"Bonza has temporarily suspended services due to be operated today, as discussions are currently underway regarding the ongoing viability of the business," Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said in a statement.

"We apologise to our customers who are impacted by this and we're working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian domestic aviation market."

The announcement follows a report which recently emerged stating Bonza's planes are being seized by creditors.

However, according to 7News, Jordan didn't make any comment on the claims.

Competing airlines, Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar have offered free flights for Bonza customers stranded by the mass cancellations.

Virgin was the first airline to offer assistance to impacted customers.

"We are aware of the temporary suspension of Bonza flights," the company said in a statement.

"We will immediately support any passengers stranded mid-journey by offering complimentary seats on Virgin Australia-operated flights to the airport nearest to their final planned Bonza destination."

Qantas and Jetstar followed suit, also confirming free flights will be offered where possible.

"We understand today's news about Bonza will have a significant impact on many people's travel plans," Qantas said.

"For Bonza customers who are due to travel today or who are stuck away from home, Jetstar and Qantas will assist by providing flights at no cost where there are seats available."

Cancelled flights on Tuesday include those to or from Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast, Launceston, Alice Springs and others.
