American retail giant Best Buy had a technical error on Tuesday (local time) which resulted in their website selling US$200 gift cards for US$15.

Eager buyers discovered that the price on the 'designer gift cards' held through until checkout, with a pending charge on their credit cards.

Purchasers are unlikely to be able to keep their US$185 windfall, as the terms of use on the site state, "Despite our best efforts… an item may be mispriced. For any of these reasons, we may cancel your order or we may contact you for instructions on the order."

The product has since been removed.
