Last prayers for Kiwi priests in Antarctica

New Zealand priests have said their final prayers at the world's southernmost church in Antarctica.

Falling congregations and an increase in Wi-Fi at the bottom of the world means Father Dan Doyle is the last of the Kiwi Catholic connections.

Five priests have been sent by the Christchurch diocese for the Americans based at McMurdo Station every summer since 1957, but that will end after this summer.

Instead of priests like Father Doyle, the Americans will use military chaplains to keep the peace in one of the most peaceful places on earth.
