Two passenger trains have derailed in India, killing at least 24 people and injuring hundreds more.

The trains crashed as they tried to cross a bridge near the town of Harda, which had partially collapsed after a flash flood.

A number of carriages fell into the river below.

"I was sleeping and suddenly I felt a jolt," survivor Manoj Mongi told the Hindustan Times.

"I woke up and saw that all the passengers were screaming and running. I came out. I saw three women floating, but I could not save them."

More than 300 people were rescued.
