Tourists are being warned away from Japan's largest volcano after its latest eruption sent ash several kilometres into the sky.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage, but the eruption on Mount Aso has caused flights to be cancelled.

Japan has more than 60 active volcanoes.

An eruption on Mount Ontake last year killed 63 people.
