A video that took the internet by storm, featuring a young woman claiming to be a pregnant French tourist in search of her baby's Australian father, was a hoax.

The actress, who refers to herself as Natalie Amyot, said she left Mooloolaba in Queensland three months ago for Paris, only to find out six weeks later she was pregnant.

She said she had returned to Australia in search of "a really cute guy" she met the night before she left.

"For me it was love at first sight… we had a beautiful night," she said. "I flew home to Paris and I lost my phone with his number, so I had no way to contact him."

However in more footage posted on the same channel today, 'Natalie' appears again, saying she has "found him" as she introduces social media specialist Andy Sellar.

"This has been a viral video," Mr Sellar says. "We just wanted to put Mooloolaba on the map."

He says he understands a lot of people are going to be "upset" and "maybe not too happy" about the hoax.

"This young lady was just a volunteer in this. I did all the Facebook, the YouTube, I did all the answering – she had nothing to do with that, she was literally just an actress."
