A man is dead and another is critically injured after riding a shopping trolley down a steep Sydney hill at an estimated 80km/h overnight.
The men, both aged 28, were thrown from the trolley – one was sitting inside it, the other standing on the back – when they collided with an oncoming vehicle at about 12:20am (local time), the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
"The estimate is that the men were travelling about 80km/h in the trolley, so they had certainly gathered some speed," Chief Inspector Stiles told the paper.
"It sounds like they might have had a bit of fun together, resulting in this terrible incident."
It's understood one of the men died at the scene, the other was taken to hospital, and the oncoming vehicle's driver was not injured.
