A detainee on Australia's Christmas Island is speaking out about the detention centre's shocking conditions.

Czarian Strang, 21, says he's back in the mainstream area of the facility, after spending three months in isolation.

He was made to live in his underwear and denied all contact with the outside world.

Speaking to RadioLIVE using a hidden cellphone, he said his only sustenance was dry cereal.

"They send us one Weetbix with no milk and no spoon, no container to eat it in. They just give it on a piece of paper and slide it under your door."

Mr Strang's wife and two children live in Australia and he's due to be deported, after being convicted of assault.
