A dual citizen of New Zealand and Britain has been found dead in a hotel room in Thailand.

It is believed the man, who was found in his Phuket hotel room on Sunday, died from an ongoing medical condition, The Phuket News reports.

Police said he checked in on October 22 and on Wednesday had told staff at the hotel – where he was a regular guest – that he was feeling unwell and was moved from a room on the second floor to the ground floor.

"Room service served the man lunch at about 2pm yesterday and went back to collect the dishes after the restaurant closed at about 10:30pm. That’s when they found his body," Lieutenant Chamaiporn Suphakom of the Karon Police told The Phuket News.

"There were no signs of struggle and his belongings seemed to be in order. We also found a lot of prescription medicines in the room."

The New Zealand and British embassies were notified of the death, and the man's body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town.

The man has not yet been named.
