Kurdish militants have launched a car bomb attack on a police complex in the province of Diyarbakir in southeast Turkey, killing five people and wounding 39, the provincial governor's office said.

It's thought a woman and a baby are among those who died in the blast, The Guardian reports.

The outer walls of the police station, in the town of Cinar, were heavily damaged by the explosion, according to the Dogan news agency. The attackers followed the bomb blast with rockets and long-range gunfire.

Wives and children of police were wounded when nearby housing for the officers was also hit, Dogan reports.
