Firefighters worked through the night on the Address Downtown hotel that was engulfed in flames on New Year's Eve, and only smoke remains to be seen billowing from the building.

A hotel spokesperson said the fire in the hotel has been contained and an investigation is ongoing, Reuters reports.

The building was evacuated and 14 people were injured, with more than 60 people treated for mild smoke inhalation.

Security officials said the conflagration began on the outside of the hotel at the 20th floor.

The New Year's fireworks display still went ahead at the nearby Burj Khalifa.
