The UN Security Council has vowed to impose new sanctions on North Korea’s after it launched a long range rocket.
Pyongyang claims it fired the rocket to place a satellite in orbit.
But critics say it was an intercontinental ballistic missile test.
It comes just weeks after North Korea conducted a fourth nuclear test.
Otago University’s international relations expert Robert Patman joined Paul Henry to discuss the situation.
Dr Patman warns that if North Korea continues down its’ current path there could be preparation for retaliation from South Korea.
He also says the fact that Kim Jong-un is only 33-years-old means he is trying to show his strength to bolster support from his own people.
