The RSA says it's dumbfounded over Australia's decision to scrap an ANZAC service at Gallipoli.

The annual service at Lone Pine has been canned because the Australian Government says the area is too windblown for pilgrims.

RSA chief executive David Moger says he's surprised and concerned by the move, emphasising that it's important to remember the battle fought there.

Services have taken place at Lone Pine for a quarter of a century.

Mr Moger says this year's ANZAC service at Chunuk Bair will go ahead as planned.
