An air traffic control recording posted online claiming to be the final communications from FlyDubai flight 981 indicates the pilots may have been trying to abort the landing before crashing next to the runway.

The Boeing 737-800 had unsuccessfully attempted to land once before circling for two hours.

Despite poor weather conditions, a second attempt at landing the airplane was made.

In the last minute of the recording, the pilot informs air traffic controllers if the landing is unsuccessful again he plans to fly to 8000 feet and reassess the situation, moments later he tells the controller he is “going around” a phrase that means they are aborting the landing attempt.

At no point in the recording are there signs of major stress or emergency.

As yet the audio remains unverified, but does appear to collate with the known facts of the final moments of the flight.
