6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Myanmar

A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake has struck northwestern Myanmar.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or loss of life as a result of the tremor, which struck 100km north of Monywa.

Tremors have also been felt in Nepal and Bagladesh, while in northeastern India, thermal power stations were shut down as a precautionary measure.
