A funeral service is being held tonight for the New Zealand detainee found dead in an Australian detention centre.
The Australian Department of Immigration said Rob Peihopa was found unconscious in Sydney’s Villawood detention Centre last week.
Officials said it’s thought the 42-year-old suffered a heart attack, but detainees claimed he was attacked before he died.
A service will be held for Peihopa in Campbeltown before his body is returned home to New Zealand tomorrow.
Community spokesman Kiri Barber said "it's the first opportunity for Rob’s family in Sydney, his three sons and his extended whanau, to see him before he heads home.”
The New South Wales coroner is investigating his death.
