Today a military court said an Israeli soldier caught on video shooting a wounded Palestinian would remain in custody until his next court appearance.
However, many Israelis are praising the soldier because the man he killed had wounded a comrade in a knife attack.
Few other cities in the occupied West Bank encapsulate the visceral hatred and division between Israeli settlers and Palestinians like Hebron.
In the latest flashpoint, a Palestinian man who'd tried to attack an Israeli was shot and wounded. As the failed attacker lay on the ground, the Israeli soldier walked up to him and shot him in the head.
The man's father has told ITV News he was executed, and the soldier appeared in court today. But among the city's Jewish settlers, the soldier has plenty of support. Hebron, some 32 kilometres miles from Jerusalem, is home to the tomb of Abraham, holy to both Jews and Muslims, and around 1000 heavily guarded Israeli settlers live in the midst of over 200,000 Palestinians.
