Rolf Harris has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of indecent assault and one of sexual assault. His trial will begin on the January 9, 2017.

The Australian entertainer appeared via video link at the Southwark Crown Court from Stafford Prison where he's serving five years and nine months for similar offences.

The court heard that the 86-year-old is suffering from a number of medical ailments and that his health needs to be monitored.

The new allegations span three decades dating back to 1971 and relate to girls and women aged between 12 and 27 years old.

Harris wore the same grey suit and multicoloured tie he had worn for his last court appearance in March and only spoke to confirm his identity and plead not guilty to each of the eight charges.

His lawyer says Harris' earliest possible release date from his current prison sentence is April 2017.

The trial will be held at the Southwark Crown Court, where his first trial took place, and could last up to five weeks.
