Tesla creator's train prototype on track

The man behind the electric car company Tesla and commercial rocket maker SpaceX is close to realising another dream.

Elon Musk wants to create a rail system that would carry people more than 1000 km/h.

Blink and you might miss it, but speed is sort of the point.

On a test track in the Nevada Desert, a heavy sled went from zero to 100km/h in about a second.

Powered by an electromagnetic propulsion system, it reached 186 miles km/h WHICH before ploughing into a sand barrier to slow it down.

'Hyperloop One' hopes to build a carbon-free network of tubes that would move at near supersonic speeds on a cushion of air using electric motors.

Theoretically, someone could travel the roughly 1000km/h from Los Angeles to San Francisco, in about 30 minutes.
